What inspired the photo and how does it relate to the theme?
I have always wanted to be a nature photographer, to share the wonder of all the species around us and inspire people to protect and care for wildlife. One of the first really spectacular images I captured was this Great Horned Owl that I discovered in Belvedere at sunset. It is so rare that we see owls, I felt especially lucky to have found it, staring down at me while I gazed up in awe. This inspired me to create a photographic natural history collection while I was in Docent training at Audubon Canyon Ranch. In that photographic exhibit there are over 100 images of mammals, insects, birds, reptiles and amphibians, wildflowers and other plants found in Marin. Each image has a caption below that gives the common name and Latin name of the species and one fun fact geared toward the 3rd and 4th grade children who visit Audubon Canyon Ranch on field trips. This was the photograph that started it all.
