About The Artist
Mark McGowan is a multi-disciplinary artist working in several media. He obtained an MFA in Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and has created more than a dozen short, non-narrative films; hundreds of photographs; written, photographed, and designed 13 short books on "American Musical Instrument Builders”; and has designed numerous museum exhibitions. His choice of medium is primarily guided by the intentions and concepts he seeks to convey through his work.
Artist StatementHenry Cartier Bresson popularized the concept of "the decisive moment”, which suggests that within the constant stream of events, there are specific moments where the arrangement of elements within a frame is ideal. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when this family walked past a travel agency advertising places they will probably never be able to visit.
