William Frick

About The Artist

Raised in Mill Valley, and life-long Marin resident, William learned at an early age that being outdoors and exploring the landscape was the greatest reward. Painting and photography courses at College of Marin were an inspiration in documenting his time spent surfing the ocean, and hiking mountains. He began with painting land and seascapes, then more recently embraced photography.

Artist Statement

In what was to become a relentless period of steady rain – a bluebird day in late January 2023 – got me out late afternoon. I wanted to see if the Elephant Seals had landed. They come back to safety in force to one of their claimed stretches of sand at Point Reyes National Seashore. This is after months at sea among the white sharks and killer whales. I watched as the bull seals jousted for territory; the sunset painted the cliffs golden. It was mesmerizing.
